Where to Stay in Nosara: Choose Your Area

Nosara-area lodging is spread across beach communities, inland roads and smaller coastal settlements. A useful comparison starts with location and the time you want to spend reaching the beach, classes, food or day trips. This guide is an area-and-style guide, not a tier list.

Who it suits

Use this page if you are choosing between a surf base, a beach stay, an inland retreat setting, a family rental or a quieter coastal stop. It is also useful when a listing says “Nosara” but the map point is actually in Guiones, Pelada, Garza, Ostional or an inland community.

Consistent comparison criteria

For every area, compare the same five questions:

1. Location: Which beach or community is the stay actually in, and what is the map location? 2. Amenities type: Is it a room, guesthouse, apartment, villa, retreat setting or small hotel? Are kitchen access, meals, laundry, shade and work space relevant to your trip? 3. Traveler fit: Does the layout suit a family, a couple, a solo surfer, a group or a retreat guest? Ask about stairs, quiet hours and arrival access. 4. Near the beach: Is the beach walkable, a short ride away, or dependent on a vehicle and local road? 5. Road logistics: What is the final road like in rain, and can the chosen transfer reach the door?

Playa Guiones

Playa Nosara

Playa Guiones

Location: Guiones is the beach-area base for a surf-centered stay. It has white sand and few stones, and sits inside the Ostional refuge.

Amenities type: Look for beach-area lodging, surf-oriented stays, small guesthouses, vacation rentals and wellness accommodation. Compare whether meals, kitchen use, board storage and a shaded outdoor area matter to your plan.

Traveler fit: Guiones can suit a first beach stay, surf learners, families who want a visible beach routine, and travelers combining surf with classes. Choose an inland stay instead when the retreat schedule matters more than a walk to the sand.

Near the beach: Ask whether the accommodation has a direct or public path to the beach and what the final road is like. A surf base is not automatically beach-adjacent.

Playa Pelada

Location: Pelada is a separate beach community north of Guiones. Pelada has white sand, stronger waves and rocks, with snorkeling and hiking among its outdoor activities.

Amenities type: Compare small beach stays, villas, guesthouses and rentals by kitchen access, shade, parking and road surface. Confirm how you reach Guiones if classes or meals are based there.

Traveler fit: Pelada can suit travelers who want a smaller beach setting and a coastal base. Families should ask about the shoreline, access path and wave conditions on their dates rather than assuming the beach suits swimming.

Near the beach: Confirm the route from the stay to the beach and whether the access is a public path or private property route. Ask about rain before arrival.

Inland Nosara

Location: Inland Nosara separates lodging from the beach but may place a traveler closer to retreat settings, community services or a quieter rural road.

Amenities type: Compare retreat accommodation, guesthouses, apartments and villas by meal arrangements, kitchen access, workspace, transport coordination and outdoor shade.

Traveler fit: This can suit wellness travelers, longer stays, families who prefer space, and visitors who plan several areas by vehicle. It is less suitable for anyone assuming a short walk to the sand without checking the map.

Near the beach: Ask for a door-to-beach estimate from the exact address and whether rain changes the route. “Nosara” alone is not enough for a transfer quote.

Playa Nosara

Location: Playa Nosara is a long beach with shallow sandbars and rocky reefs, extending toward the Río Boca Nosara.

Amenities type: Look for coastal lodging, rentals and small guesthouses, then ask about food, water, shade, parking and road access. Amenities differ from Guiones.

Traveler fit: It can suit travelers building a beach-and-nature plan who are comfortable with a less standardized visitor setup. Surfers should ask locally about conditions.

Near the beach: Confirm the exact road and shoreline access. Ask the host what happens after heavy rain and whether a high-clearance vehicle is needed for the final approach.

Garza and Ostional

Garza: Garza has a stony beach, moderate waves, a mangrove area and a nearby fishing village. Compare coastal guesthouses and rentals by road, food access and whether you want a community setting rather than Guiones surf services.

Ostional: Plan around refuge rules as well as lodging. SINAC requires an accredited local guide on the beach during nesting season. ADIO and the refuge announce observation times, and groups are kept small. SINAC prohibits vehicles and horses on protected sand, plus pets, litter, fires and nighttime flash. Include the current refuge contact and access plan.
